Our commitment to the environment

Dakhla is an environmental exception, a city facing the desert, in the middle of nowhere and above all at the end of the world.

Its ecosystem is unique and fragile. At Palais Rhoul Dakhla we consider that our services should not generate or waste

of precious resources, nor overproduction of pollution. Thus, after ordering an impact study from

of an international firm we have drawn up an environmental charter.

This is mainly based on the preservation of this exceptional site, the facilities to save water and energy,

as well as our respectful purchasing policy promoting the economic development of our beautiful southern province.

This charter specifies the actions carried out and the measures taken to move towards even more responsible behavior.

It also describes the few simple gestures that allow you to be associated with our approach during your stay.

Already many benefits measure these actions taken, the alliance of service and respect for the environment is part of

sustainably for your comfort and for our future generations.

  • In the bathroom, the myth  “the more welcome products there are, the better the hotel service” is hard to come by. The reality is sadder: these comfort products most of the time end up in the trash without being used. This becomes useless waste stored in the desert in an open dump 60 km from Dakhla. The added cost of these hospitality products can be substantial and is included in the room rate. By choosing to offer you the necessary, you pay the right price while respecting the principles of anti-waste and more than anything the fragile ecological balance of the desert that surrounds us. The shower products and soap offered to you in your rooms are natural and certified organic. After your departure they are distributed free of charge.

  • The welcome products are eco-responsible.

  • We save water with, in particular, regulators on the taps.

  • We recover the water from the swimming pool, after natural filtration, for the cleaning of our various outdoor spaces.

  • We treat 80% of our wastewater through a natural overflow system.

  • We opted for an ecological swimming pool filtration system; UV lamps that reduce the use of chemicals by 98%.

  • We preserve wildlife and continue our commitment with the League for the Protection of local species.

  • We take during our fishing or spearfishing outings, only what we will immediately consume.

  • We scrupulously respect the biological rests.

  • We do not use pesticides. (only on request of our customers)

  • Plastic bottles are prohibited. Water in the rooms is served free of charge to guests in glass bottles.

  • We install low consumption light bulbs and have a digital management system that optimizes and reduces our consumption.

  • We prefer eco-labeled cleaning products for lingerie. Sheets are not changed daily, unless requested by the client

  • We are introducing control processes for personal safety, health and food monitoring.

  • We choose our suppliers among those who respect their environment.

  • We prefer regional hospitality products.

  • We value the gastronomic products of the region. We favor local suppliers in order to reduce our supply radius as much as possible.

  • We have implemented measures to reduce waste production at source.
For example, by reducing the packaging of products purchased from its suppliers as much as possible, or by not using single-use products or very few of them.

  • We offer food products from organic and responsible agriculture. Over time we will expand our range according to the development of these productions.

  • The materials used for construction and renovation are eco-responsible. It can be waste materials, recycled materials, ecological paints

  • At least 90% of staff come from surrounding towns and villages

  • Our house is committed to helping others, either through its own foundation or through concrete local actions (for example, we systematically cook 1 meal out of 3 more for the local population). We also participated in the financing of the first medical center in Dakhla and dedicated to fragile people.

By these few simple gestures you contribute to not wasting these precious resources

  • By unplugging your chargers if they are not connected to a charging device.

  • By bringing a pair of flip flops with you for your trips around the house. We have totally prohibited single-use slippers (and in general all single-use hospitality products); there is no recycling site in Dakhla, only an open landfill exposed to the wind. The environmental impact of this type of product for our lagoon is dramatic.

  • By not letting tap water run unnecessarily.

  • By reasonably renewing your bathroom linen and swimming pool towels.

  • By throwing nothing but toilet paper down the toilet.

  • By opting for your trips within the house for reusable flip flops.

  • Air conditioning is not always present, the temperature in Dakhla does not make it essential. When it is installed and you turn it on, the windows and bay windows must remain closed.

Particular importance is given to selective sorting: cardboard, plastic, glass, batteries, oils and food waste are collected separately.

  • Rather than throwing plastic bottles, remember that it is better to use water bottles.

  • Drop off your used batteries in the main lounge.

  • In Nordic walking or bivouac think of the small garbage bag or the pocket ashtray.

  • Your medicines and hazardous waste must be treated by appropriate channels, give them to us.
